Go Together offers a Participatory Research approach to collaborate with communities to co-create solutions, engage in real-time feedback loops and contribute to continuous learning. Through training in research design, data collection and evaluation, we provide context-sensitive, evidence-based insights to inform adaptive strategies and support community ownership in systems change.
Communities are the heartbeat of society—places where connections are formed, resilience is nurtured and hope finds its way, even in the face of adversity. Yet, when a community experiences collective trauma, these vital networks can fracture, leaving individuals and families grappling with stress and uncertainty. How, then, can communities heal and rebuild? What practices and principles can spark recovery and foster collective well-being?
This groundbreaking research delves into these pressing questions, focusing on the neighbourhoods served by Worcester Community Development Trust. It seeks to illuminate how trauma and stress have shaped the lives of children and families and, crucially, how recovery is being catalysed at the community level.
By examining the role of a community anchor institution and the relationships it fosters, the research aims to uncover the transformative potential of collaborative efforts. It investigates the behaviours and values of professionals who have supported this process, the actions of residents who have driven recovery and the underlying principles that hold promise for replication across other communities.
This study is not merely an exploration of challenges; it is a celebration of resilience, innovation and the power of human connection. By identifying practices that have aided healing and recovery, it offers a roadmap for organisations, professionals and residents seeking to transform trauma into collective strength.
At its core, this research is about hope: the hope that, through intentional and compassionate efforts, communities can rise stronger, more connected and better equipped to navigate the complexities of the future.
Rich is currently working on a chapter for a book with the University of Worcester on storytelling for systems change. Stories shape how we see the world, our capacity for change, and the values and goals of the systems we live within.
In community-led initiatives, narratives define a sense of place and connection. The stories emerging from these spaces are often overlooked but have immense potential to build empathy, shift mindsets and foster collaboration.
Stories play a dual role in systems change; they explain outcomes and actively shape them. By weaving together diverse lived experiences, storytelling creates shared understanding and strengthens community bonds. However, narratives can also divide, making it essential to reject deficit-based stories and focus on strengths-based approaches that empower and inspire.
At its core, storytelling is deeply personal. It enables us to see the world through others' eyes, fostering understanding and connection. Shifting systems requires shifting perspectives and storytelling is a powerful tool to drive this change.
